Not keen, I'll admit. Probably because that platter (mat?) reminds me of the cheap old music centres. It also still seems like a lot of money for a TT package (without a cart, I note) that is at the entry level to the range...

The caption photo makes it look more like a 7” sized player because of the huge speed control box.  But the close ups better reveal the SME engineering we all know and love.

Probably not worth double the cost of the Rega Planar 10, but what a pedigree!

A lot of people freaked out when Ajay bought SME. He has shown that he is keen to get on with things and he is to be applauded.

However having compared the SME10 to a Luxman PD171A £5000 and greatly preferring the Luxman and buying it (I actually had paid a deposit to buy the SME and only did the comparison on a whim) I would say that the price point is too high but no doubt the brand loyalists will not care too much.

Not the best looking TT and for 6 grand I'd want something a bit better looking than that to be honest

I can’t quite bring myself to applaud anyone who has had a hand in stopping SME from selling arms on their own. I’m sure the company had its reasons but I still think it’s a crazy decision, personally.

Sure the money is in the components and the engineering but unless this looks better up close I think for over 6k without a cart you would expect something a little sleeker. With a suitable cart you're looking at 7k if not 8k...

I think it looks horrible, but them most SME decks do.  Looks like a 1960s cheap LP spinner. The price is insane, no doubt the 30 is now 50K, simply massively overpriced now.

As the owner of several SME arms, they are not that good.  (V, IV, 312S)
