Rolling Stone top 500 albums

Rolling Stone has recently released its top 500 albums of all time list. The first list came out in 2003 and was briefly updated in 2012. This new list is a lot different and there are many changes, especially in the top 50. Sgt Pepper has slipped down quite a way and many albums in the top 20 I have not heard. Mainly because they are (c)rap or hip-hop. (At my age I'm likely to encounter a hip-op, not hip-hop.) Now the best album of all time is Marvin Gaye's What's Going On.

Edit Post   Reply

The only hip-hop I like has a capital C and a capital S

Is that correct, no Led Zeppelin 4, unless I missed it.

i think it will quite a bit different if it was rerun, be surprised if Radiohead remain at no. 2.

There was one done on the Linn forum fairly recently.

The current Rolling Stones Top 500 Albums of all time, its the saddest list of shite I have seen in a while and they get paid to come up with this cr@p................. No Prog (to speak off), No Zappa what a sad arsed world we have here. No Wonder Frank Zappa always had a gripe about this rag.

If you took all of Led Zep, Jimi Hendrix, Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, CSN(&Y), Joni Mitchel, VU, Pavement, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, throw in some Jazz standards, some trashy Rap, add some Diva shite, plus some hick Country and threw the all LP names against a wall, you too could come up with the same crappy list.

Yes , name your favourite top ten albums of all time , no doubt somebody picked it but singular votes never made it in the 100 .

I see. Still struggling with Led Zepp 4, getting less than 2 votes, it is often the one with the most.

Songs from the Wood - Jethro Tull, an interesting choice, I did go to the concert on that tour. I may have Aqualung in my top 10.

I would have Who's Next which is also missing I think.

That is slightly different from the greatest albums of all time.

I must have forgot about Who's Next because that should have been in my list . In my case I tried to pick a different artist for each choice and I picked them on the effect they had on me at the time and their longevity , today The Wall would replace DSOTM and as much as I liked What's the Story... it wouldn't make my top ten now .

Mine would change all the time. I find it difficult choosing between 70s albums and more modern ones, some 70s were great at the time but have not aged so well for me.

Made in Japan was the first album I ever bought but would not make my top 50.

My favourite albums would be different from my greatest albums.

On the Linn forum,  top 20 albums, the top 3 are: Blood on the Tracks (7) - Bob Dylan, Ziggy Stardust (7) - David Bowie and then Dark Side of the Moon (6) - Pink Floyd. Ledd Zepp 4 and Who's next both have 5 votes.
