Hi,

Would you please elaborate on whether the above might be a happy marriage?

For electric jazz and 60s/70s progressive rock.

Thanks for opinions!

Can you try it?

It wouldn't be my first choice - but that doesn't mean you won't like the combination.

For Focal, I prefer brands like Arcam and Electrocompaniet.

.....I wouldn't go quite that far - but it's why I suggested amps that had a little more "Meat on the bone". I would just worry that the combination would be a little cold, analytical and not that musically engaging.

Other brands I would recommend are: Pathos; Croft; Unison Research Unico; Audio Analogue; Sugden; Luxman and possibly Musical Fidelity.

If I could have the Linn Majik for £300 and a pair of upper end Focal speakers for £500 I'd give it a go.

The thing with hi-fi like Linn and Focal is not so much that it's bad. It's more a case of you can get equally good or better sound elsewhere for less money.

The Majik I Dynamik would cost me £400. The Focals are already with me for a long time

Perhaps tell us what amplifier you’ve previously used with your Focals, and exactly which model speaker you have, as that gives some context.  The stereotype, which fans tell me isn’t typical, is that Focal speakers tend to to be forward or bright.  Hence most of us will react as above if you mention bright Cyrus in the same system!  A Linn Majik should be smooth enough if you have to take a punt.

(I’d have never thought Naim and Focal would sit well together until the financial side partnered up, but then I’ve not heard their recent pairings to make a fair assessment for myself.)

The speakers are German made Zoller Imagination equipped with Focal kevlar woofers and Focal Tioxid tweeters.Very revealing and enjoyable very much if partnered with smooth  amplifier
