Handful of carts - which one for the Technics 1500c?

So I've got a 1500c on its way.

I could well be happy with the 2M red that comes with it, but I have these others that I might try and I wondered if anyone had any knowledge / experience with them?

The 2M Blue stylus is an option, so if none of these are especially good, I can go with that.

Thanks in advance.

Congratulations on your new purchase.

Your collection must be pretty ancient as I remember selling most of them, and I left my part-time retail job in the mid-80s!  Even if the styli are ok, the suspension could be very stiff so I’d be cautious.

I’d stick with the 2M Red, and if you find it too smooth then look at Audio Technica.  The updated 95 series is very versatile with about half a dozen different stylus types to choose from, or the VM540 or 740 models with a bigger budget.

80s mm carts shouldn't be too bad, I'm running a A&R P77Mg very successfully on my 401/RB250 in my 2nd system. So much so that I've also got another complete P77Mg and a plain vanilla P77 cart though only 2 original, plastic boxes and stylus guards + 1 outer box.

Genuine M20E Super stylus still available from thakker

That’s a good find. I had the slightly fancier fine line version back in the day. I’d long since sold the turntable in which it was fitted, but I found the packaging a couple of years ago - and found a buyer for it on eBay.  It was a nice smooth cartridge and a good tracker.  It might prefer a slightly lower mass arm than the Technics has, but it’s a possibility.

I've just bought a 1500c. Immediately took off the 2M Red and replaced it with an old Ortofon VMS30 MkII; a substantial upgrade.

I have ordered an AT-VM95ML for it, but heaven knows when that will get here :/

Why did you take it off so quickly?

I just didn't like it. It's a bit closed in and unrefined. I know you shouldn't expect very much for 100 quid, but .......

When I got it, I thought it had about 20 hours on it, and I probably put about another 20 or so on it, so it had a bit of time.

I hope you are very happy with yours.
