Time to make and buy British?

Given the downturn in the economy due to Covid and the effects of Brexit, is it time to start manufacturing more in Britain and buying British wherever possible?

It would be great. Unfortunately, in most cases it's simply impossible. Find me high enough quality valves, capacitors, resistors, sockets, etc. that are made in the UK at sensible prices and I'd be delighted to use them. Like most people, I'd have always been delighted to use them. Just one small problem...

The best we can hope for is the buying public just to be conscious of the product/parts history.  Personally I think it would be sad to lose some of the companies I like as will many other folks.  The Blue chip companies dont really need our help. Do they ?  As long as we recognise this U.K. hifi has a chance....or does it.  :)

Brexit has hastened our decline. Large scale manufacturing will never return to the UK as it's too expensive to set up and the market is too small. We have always been very good at specialist manufacturing but making it harder to sell to a key market will not have positve consequences. We will drive away high tech companies because we cannot supply them with skilled staff or provide them with easy access to a large market on our doorstep. If I were in the bottom 2/3 of society, I'd be extremely worried about how things are going to be in 10 years time. I'd like to be positive about the future but Brexit has turned out to be more of a clusterfuck than any of us imagined.

Reminds me of the Backing Britain campaign in the late 60s. I can even remember the badges as my mates sister had one. Totally futile then things picked up when we joined the common market.

Joining the Common Market was probably a good idea at the time. Then it morphed into the EU ...

Surely our only hope is to rebuild the navy* and start invading again?

* If modern parts and metals are hard to import, I'm sure we have enough trees left to build a few dozen ships. And we can raid the museums for old cannons and stuff.

Sounds like a plan to me. I have a Dress Sword I could donate - and might even have a WW2 Bayonet to go as well, if I can find it.

so that's why I and a lot of others voted to leave. But there's little point in arguing about it now, there's other threads for that.

I'd rather have square cams. The engine would at least have a sporting spec
