Yes the ball bearing fix can work, in my opinion the best one to get is the SRM Tech it's not cheap but decent quality, also look to replace the 2 capacitors and the resistor on the motor input circuit, one of the caps is for phase shift as the two halves of the motor need to be at 90 degrees to each other, the caps over time wear out which causes the motor to become noisy.

if the two things above don't cure your motor then you may want to look for a motor from one of the newer models of TD160 which came with a different lower voltage motor, but remember if you go down that route you will need to get an appropriate PSU and motor control circuit.
