Do we have a "What (Music) book are you reading now" Thread?

Recommended Posts

As the title suggests would be happy to see here recommendations about books on music or hifi equipment.

To get the ball rolling:

I have just finished reading the John Nightly biography "The Story of John Nightly" written by Tot Taylor.

Almost 900 pages, but excellently written and does justice to this great artist, who today would probably be mentioned in the same breath as Brian Wilson, Syd Barrett or David Bowie, if his star had not set so soon :(

BTW I am still looking for a vinyl version of Nightly's  "Mink Bungalow Requiem" since I only have a worn out tape but sold my Nakamichi RX505.

If the name John Nightly doesn't ring a bell...

Decca - The Supreme Record Company 1929 - 2019.  Edited by Darren Henley and Daryl Eastlea.  Lavishly illustrated and eminently readable.

"Die Kinder hören Pink Floyd" ("The children listen to Pink Floyd) by Alexander Golkow

For me the best book of 2021 so far.
unfortunately, as far as i know, there is no english translation from german yet

in this (autobiographical) novel, the author who - like myself - was born in the mid-60s tells the story of growing up in the mid-70s in West Germany.

The boy is about 10 years old. his older sister, who has a heart condition, is a big Pink Floyd fan, which is why the boy is also passionate about pink Floyd.

I do not want to spoil too much, but this book was for me a real time travel to my youth in the 70s.

But the epilogue (set in 2018) is also touching, in which Alexander Gorkow - in "real life" a popular music journalist who has met and interviewed the Pink Floyd band members countless times - settles the score with his idol Roger Waters, who has turned from a former fighter "against the establishment" into a Jew insulter.

I was deeply touched by the book.

P.S.: The book cover bears a certain resemblance in color to a popular record....
