I hadn't listened to that in a long long time, it's botleg quality and very sssssibilant.

Yes, I think that was the old CBS records at its lowest ebb, though the song was saved by the beautiful melody.  I always include it when I audition kit as it sorts out the wheat from the chaff far more readily than luxurious recordings.

See the edit to my above post, re S/C.

I would also get some Linn Blacks off ebay (or any cheap, but well made copper ones) and see what happens.

There is a good chance that your problem has a lot to do with your cables - easily tested with cheap copper replacements.

FWIW. I wouldn't let Silver Coated cables anywhere near my system....unless it was overly smooth and needed some extra life injected into it.

+1 on silver coated. I'm not one who spends shed loads on cables but I've always thought that cables can have subtle effects on sound. About a month ago, I tried a pair of silver coated xlr, sourced from China via Ebay - fitted them, then forgot. Gradually, however, I noticed that I wasn't enjoying listening to music as much as before and also noticed an imbalance in volume levels between left and right channels (a measured 5db difference at 80/85db).

I almost got to the point of sending my speakers back to AE (boxes down from the loft etc). The sound (apart from the volume imbalance) had lost a subtle sense of warmth and had become noticeably less listenable. Long story short, replaced silver cables with trusted copper Gotham XLRs and happy listening returned. The silver cables were not expensive and one may have even been faulty (weird volume issue), but I will, in future, stick to copper.

I recently purchased Opticon 6 Mk2 and absolutely love them. Bass is focused, no harsh treble and over all I feel they produce the sound I love.

I tested then in store against Monitor Audio Silver 200 and Dali Oberon 5.

They replaced my Monitor Audio Bronze 5 budget Floorstanders.

I don’t know how to quantify the sound in Audiophile language but the sound really bloody good.

Audiophiles don't usually quantify sound quality anyway, they only qualify it which is what you just did, plainly but clearly. :^
