where to start. First African stuff I bought was back in 1985 when Streetsounds released the New Africa album. It attempted to continue the DJ mixing that had worked so well on the Electro series but the music wasn't quite so well suited with such different tempos and time-sigs. But it worked as a sampler of that mid 80s electric africa sound...

From there I went to the awesome Hugh Masakela and the Techno Bush album, which I just loved... unfortunately not available on CD but most of the tracks are on the surround sound compilation album...

Paul Simon has been name checked a couple of times but sorry, Malcolm Mclaren's Duck Rock album was a few years ahead of the curve as far as crossover went:

of course good old Andy Kershaw along with Peel were banging out shedloads of African stuff on Radio One, Bhundu Boys as mentioned already of course. So that's where it all started for me!
