Is placement a major factor to consider for using a REL sub. I'm considering the zero or the t5.

I'm in a small stereo room that's 3m x 3m and floor space is at a premium.

In a word, no. Bass is less directional than treble and mids so many people tuck them away in a corner like I do. Obviously that can reinforce the bass so if you were moving a previously calibrated (and I mean by ear) sub from mid room to corner, you’d probably need to turn the wick down, but if you’re starting afresh then you will simply set the initial levels accordingly.

Hope this helps.

I'm not familiar with the later generations of REL subs - I use a Strata V to excellent effect in my setup - I would recommend looking at unported models, and be prepared to spend quite a long time getting the integration right - it's not a straightforward job, and I think it's one of the reasons some people are so set against subs in a hifi context: as @TheFlash says, when done properly you should only really notice it when you switch it off...

Any IA-4 owners out there ever used the MM phono stage in the amp? If so, is it any good?

I used it for a very short time before I set up my MC, and I thought it was.

It has a very good reputation as far as inbuilt phono stages go.
