Having tried out a Roksan Nima on my Garrard 401 with positive results, I am now keen on trying out a 12 inch unipivot arm - ideally something that's not too difficult to set up.

Only thing is – my armboard that allows 12 inch arms has a rega sized (23mm) mounting hole and I don’t want the hassle/cost of getting a brand new armboard made right now.

So, what are the options for 12 inch unipivot arms that would fit a rega mount – with or without an additional adapter. Happy to buy an additional adapter to convert to the Rega mount hole – if that’s an option.

I know the Opera Consonance 1288 arm fits the bill but seems to be difficult to get hold of.

Any other options to consider?

The Nottinngam Analogue AceSpace 12 inch version looks interesting but not sure if I can get an adapter to fit a Rega mount.

All advice much appreciated!

I would probably be looking at used arms with a budget of £500-700

Thanks Gregg

I already had contacted AA-Acoustics on the Opera Consonance - unfortunately they dont have the right 12 inch versions any more..long story

I am also in touch with Adrian Parsons of Audio Flair on the Goldnote arm - in fact meeting him tomorrow. This may well work, but want to look at other options as well.

I have a Consonance T1288 that I've used on a 401 and a Lenco , although it's been pushed to one side since I started using a Dynavector tonearm .

I have a Rega R200 12" I am looking to sell. Note not the current RB series but the original arm that is converted to 12" with Litz wire. Similar to the one Tom (montesquieu - why is that sooo hard to spell correctly), had and used for a while.

Can demo / make up a tonearm counterweight to suit your cart or several for a range of carts... It handles SPU's, IO Denon 103's etc no problem, as well as medium compliance carts with lighter weights.

Drop me a PM if of interest.

Thanks Steve.

Sounds interesting. I may well take you up on the offer later. Right now in the process of getting hold of an opera consonance 12 incher. Will have a go with that first

Um, maybe I’m a bit dense, but will a 12 inch arm really fit a fixed armboard cut for a standard Rega. The spindle to pivot distance on a Rega is 222mm. The spindle to pivot for an Opera Consonance 1288 is 290mm!

http://www.opera-consonance.com/products/PDF/manual/T988%20and%20T1288%20V2012.pdf

Although you can drop the 12 inch toenarm into the Rega hole, there’s no way you can set it up correctly. Maybe I’m missing something here?

It's not a fixed armboard. It's an adjustable armboard that can be turned around to change the pivot to spindle distance from 9 to 12 inches

OK, but if you can’t get the spindle to pivot EXACTLY right, then you can’t get the cartridge to work optimally across the LP.

If you can measure the spindle to pivot distance accurately you can generate an arc template with that Conrad Hoffman program and providing the headshell allows for enough adjustment it should be possible to do it.

I'm watching this with interest, as I'm in the same boat - looking for a (budget) 12" arm option. The Opera arm looks interesting.
