I've got some somewhere I'd be happy to loan you to try out.If the output is too high, then you can put some Rothwell attenuators in line to drop it.

Although they may take it too far, 3V to 2V isn't a lot of db.
I think the ones I have are 14db, so I doubt that would be at all sensible.Yeah, 3v to 2v is about -3.3db.
Rothwell attenuators are -10db, which would give 0.95v.
So could be an option.
Thanks for the offer anyway, its very kind of you.I think the ones I have are 14db, so I doubt that would be at all sensible.
Also if you're using replaygain or other volume levelling, then you will be well under the 3V max output.
I used attenuators when I had a 2qute. It made the volume control useful as opposed to very loud at a mere touch.
Go for the 10db.
It's insignificant when using 24 bit, but as you're looking at getting a 16 bit DAC then it's definitely a consideration. Suck it and see, Roon does the volume control at 64 bit floating then converts back to your required target bit depth, so it might be ok. My DAC is 24 bit so I find it transparent and a real boon not to have to leap for the volume when I whack on a super loud CD rip.Yes, I do use a volume control before the dac, its one of the reasons I like qobuz. I try not to use it too much because it reduces SNR.
