I heard an extract from volume 8 of Margaret Phillips' recording of Bach's organ works (on Regent Records)some time ago on CD Review. I was impressed enough to buy this volume and have since got volumes 7 and 5. All sets have so far been magnificent. She plays a range of historic organs and makes imaginative use of registrations to serve the music (and not just to show case the organs).
Her tempi tend to be moderate and certainly slower than Koopman, who can be brilliant but too often sounds to me like a man in a rush to finish a job before catching last orders. Regent Records have also done a great job of recording the instruments.
Has anyone else any experience of these recordings?
