What shite this was/is.

I had heard - without knowing the title - that something-video was to be released on all-formats simultaneously.

Without being too arsed to find out 'the title', I randomly recorded off Film 4 HD the above 'AFIE', and (as with all watching with me) thought it was/is bollox/missed many obvious opportunities to be enjoyable/worthwhile.

I thought it brilliant! Absolutely loved it for it's nerve and feel. What's not to like about a bunch of 17th century misfits in search of a mythical pub getting off their tits on 'shrooms whilst the civil war rages around them and a nutter searches for hidden treasure?

Didn't watch it, mainly because I watched Kill List from the same director the previous night. Why it got good reviews is quite beyond me.

First third: soap-grade bickering couple

Second third: torture porn me too

Third third: the Wicker Man

I think Kill List is Wheatleys weakest film. A few of my mates rave about it; but I think it's only ok.

I do however think both Down Terrace and especially Sightseers are excellent. Sightseers has become one of my favourite films.

I watched A Field in England; whislt I was really tired; but enjoyed what I saw. I need to rewatch it before delivering a final verdict.

I really am glad that some enjoyed it - I wanted it to turn into colour/have women/a pub.

My Bitmap Bros 'Cadaver' (Amiga-PC-Atari) follow up 'The Pay Off' has at end of final (9th in all, + 3 mag. specials) the eating of mushroom reward/gold where all becomes very colourfully vibrant...).

It seems as if Freakshift is Wheatley's next project.

A good interview with him HERE

When we pressed for story details, he let a few slip: "It's an adventure/sci-fi thing. It's like 'Hill Street Blues,'" Wheatley said, making a fairly incredible comparison. "It's about a crew that's built up this armored vehicle and they go out and have to respond to 911 calls about these big monsters that have come out of the ground." He went on to descibe the creatures: "They come out of the ground every night but there are different creatures -- there are these massive half-monkey mutant things and loads of weird spiders and shit." Wheatley explained that working on the designs for the monsters has been a thrill, as it's allowed him to tap into some childlike glee, "It's been cool. I'm a big collector of comics, so I've been talking to a bunch of old '2000 A.D.' artists and they've been doing artwork for it. And we've got some 3D models of the creatures, which we're going to test this month."

Loved (if that's the right word) "Kill List" which I saw at the cinema when it was released. While watching it, I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen next (this is a very good thing).

I found AFIE interesting but not compelling on first viewing. However some scenes have lodged in my brain (the tent scene - oh my God!) and I definitely want to see it again.

I haven't seen "Down Terrace" or "Sightseers" but I want to. :)

Kill List was described to me by my friends as 'a work of genius' and 'the best british film in years'; so I had really high expectations of it when I watched it. I did enjoy it; but wasn't knocked out by it. I think it's due a rewatch.

I was really tired when I watched A Field in England and enjoyed that also; but there was a lot going on that I didn't get; so that also deserves a rewatch.

It's not often that I give films a second chance; but I think both of these films deserve that.

I haven't seen "Down Terrace" or "Sightseers" but I want to. :)
Yes; do watch them! Now these two Wheatley films I really love; Sightseers has become an all time favourite of mine :^

Haven't seen Sightseers but thought Down Terrace had an interesting approach to telling a story.

Did not get on at all with Kill List (too much pointless graphic violence - yaaaawn).

Was slightly bored for the half of A Field in England but then the shroom sequence happened and I was hooked.

Not having the faintest idea what any of these films are about, I had a look 'round t'internet.

AFIE gets 88% from Rotten Tomatoes, which is one of the highest ratings I have ever seen that site give. IMDB rates it 6.1/10, nothing like as good.

Perhaps worth a look, if only to see what all the fuss is about!

When AFIE was 1st shown here it was accompanied by an interview with Wheatley. Aspects of the story, particularly the possible allegories involved, ie were they dead or not? Was it just a 'shroom trip? etc were deliberately left unresolved.

Watched the anthology ABC's of Death last week, not a true Wheatley movie as it unfolds with 26 short stories a though z from different global directors.

Nothing to shout home about, some of the best stuff is from the Japanese directors but Wheatleys is okay, worth a watch if you fuck all else to do.
