Back in the 'Old Guard' days, Jim (JVC) used to host a New year's eve bake off in Ilford (he's moved since..) and nobody could get in except his clique, cos when the thread was posted there were, in an instant, 12 names signed up. Harummph! Closed shop organised with prior warning by the Cogniscenti via pms..
So I posted a rival bake off on the same day to which I had one aspirant our own, cuddly, Mayebazza. Not much of a dent in their hegemony..!
So, why would I propose a similar bake off - invitation only?
There are precedents in my other fields- a Jive Masters comp with entrants limited to champions; also, the Augusta Masters in Golf, springs to mind.
The reason is that horns ( a species, nay, the crowning glory, of high efficiency) are specialistic.
I have limited access in the flat and need small numbers and I strongly prefer, and need to restrict myself to, a list of attendees that have shown an interest in horns or a noticeable interest in my horn endeavours.
Is this break with tradition an ethical nono, or does the panel think I have provided a good enough case to have who I want on the grounds that they deserve the chance to hear my horns (which are now ready)?
I'm not bringing them to Stoke so horn enthusiasts (count on one hand anyway) have an opportunity to come to me (this year, at least) and get a taste of horn action (can I say that?)!
