A moan about the price of components (drive units) going up.

Exactly 2 years ago I bought some tweeters from Falcon Acoustics, Seas 22TAF/G for £58.80 a pair. Today to buy those same tweeters they are selling for £100.14 delivered. The cost has almost doubled in 2 years!

Going back to 2015 I bought a Scanspeak D2010/851300 for £37.90 excluding vat. That very same speaker will now cost you £56.95 exc vat (£68.34 including).

Kind of takes the shine off DIY speakers now, the price has seriously gone up!

The prices are ridiculous in india sir. Especially with our 42% import tax +GST. Even a decent mid fi amp is well upwards of 2k. I really don't know how any youngsters will be willing to dip their toes into 2 channel audio at these price levels.

Maybe you need some new favourites then 😂
I'm not screaming. Following the DIY path means that even paying an arm and a leg for components, I can afford a system that's far better than I could if I bought 'off the shelf'.

Nevertheless, the relative increases in component costs are across the board. Everything from the bog standard to the dog's b*llocks parts has gone up substantially.

Probably what happens with manufacturers actually. When costs become a factor to profits they probably change and the next designs then become the new favourites.

Although I'm sure in the hifi world things are made with the cost not in mind. Mass market hifi it be would obviously.

My Volt RV4564 18” bass drivers are now £930 each 😱😱
You bought at a good time Keith!

Cost will always be in mind unless it's a charity or a small firm with principles but they still can't afford to lose money.
