Just having a session with Lurch’s cast-offs that he decided not to have when I picked them up for him fro a guy in Derby
Arcam 1’s
They we’re being sold by a gentleman’s son . So I got to hear about the gentleman and his HiFi and how he cared for it ..So when John said I could buy them for what he paid it was a no brainer ..give them a little space behind and tallish stands and they sing
Just the tiniest mark which I will sort but they’re already 9+

This got me on the hifi trail way back in 1978 as a teenager — Ferguson Ultra Music Centre with Goodmans 2 ways.

The tape deck failed after a year or so and I added a Technics M205 and then after saving up for ages an Ariston RD80SL/Basik LVV/K5 - by prising up the plastic plinth of the built in Garrard SP25 I managed to squeeze my hand inside and unplug the L/R phonos from the circuit board and replace them with the Ariston tonearm cable, wedged the plinth open with a bit of cardboard so the cable didn't get damaged, basically turned the music centre into a receiver.

Looking great! A beautiful finish and very tidy workmanship. Are you leaving it natural or varnishing / lacquering it?
Thank you, it’s had 3 applications of satin hard wax oil so far with quite a few more to get it to where I want it.

Look forward to seeing the final result. From the evidence so far it will be worth the effort.

Thank you. I’ve actually made two identical plinths as this one is heading to my friends. The second one will go on my stock td125mkii.

Busy week with plinth building. 3x garrard 401 plibths, 2x Thorens td124, 2x Thorens td125 & a couple of prototypes too

As the new (old) 563 is hissing when it gets hot, I have been lent a Chord to play with.
Interesting !

My guess is that the 563 will hold its owns. The chord may nudge it on sheer detail retrieval but I think the 563 will deliver a sound where the detail feels more integrated or coherent with the overall sound. Let us know your observations

It seems to me that while the Chord is very detailed, somehow the Meridian sounds more '3d' - if that makes any sense. It's as if all the detail is there, but presented in a bigger soundstage with better ambience retrieval.
