All of 'em to an extent, but changing speakers had the biggest effect.

Sorry, but I toothink you should have 'room' in the choices. IME makes more difference than anything else......

Wide soundstage? i.e. beyond the outside edge of the speakers? Definately the speakers have the greatest influence on this.

Soundstage more generally can be quite significantly affected by any of the aforementioned components. What is most influential will be system/room dependant.

So bearing in mind the above I'd say speaker then speaker positioning is most important.

Just been play with Conrad Johnson Poweramp (using Krell pre-out) and soundstage is a lot wider now than using krell on its own

.

I always thought speakers alone that made 3d soundstage but just been proving wrong by a power amp. (if it's a preamp then I wouldn't be so

)

BTW Just experimenting as i can't go no where today....flood alert and raining like cats and dogs out there!

It's definately the room / speaker placement , as I've just found out .

We've had a change around in our front room , same speakers in the same room only

in a different position .

I once had a wide deep soundstage , now I haven't

It's an older one and look a bit like your microwave krell

Very sweet sound indeed.

I don't have a microwave Krell. I have one of the later gun metal ones with big spikey heat sinks at the sides.

I substituted a £350 CDP(from 2nd system) for my (main)£800 CDP.(amp/speakers same) The soundstage deteriorated substantially, becoming narrower with less depth.
