Someone from India has bid on my speakers:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190861931144?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

I've gone back with a load of questions and pointing out they are UK collection only. He says:

"I have successfully shipped speakers from UK to India, I had shipped Harbeth monitors last time and I got them without a scratch or dent"

Given however he has only 1 feedback and joined eBay in March 2013, I'm concerned/presuming this is some kind of scam. Question is how could he scam me? Only thing I can think of is he pays through paypal, ships the speakers, than questions something about the transaction and tries to get the money back through paypal knowing i wont pay to ship them back to the UK, so he also tries to keep them.

Would appreciate some Wam wisdom. Not sure how he's been able to bid as I'd blocked the sale to international bidders

I'll have to contact eBay to get his bid removed
I also had a foreign bidder on an item I had listed as UK postage only. I remember there is a setting somewhere which allows you to block bids from countries you do not ship to. Can't remember where it is, but a google will see you right.

Cheers

Martin

No you don't, just cancel his bid.

http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?CancelBidShow

Then revise your listing and change the postage exclusion terms.

You normally caqn't amend the auction after there has been a bid and this may still be the case after a bid has been cancelled. If so close the auction and relist it properly with the correct postage exclusions

You need to adjust your selling preferences

On your 'my eBay' page click on

Account>Site Preferences>Selling Preferences>Buyer Requirements

Then tick the box 'Buyers in locations to which I don't post'

Then tick 'Apply above settings to active and future listings.'

Just had another look at the auction.

You added the following today

If you are a UK bidder and want to arrange your own courier please email me before bidding:

Do not do this, you leave yourself open to the oldest paypal fraud in the book.

You have also broken two of ebays rules which if reported will result in the auction being pulled

You cannot publish your email and invite bidders to complete the sale off eBay, as far as eBay are concerned this is fee evasion on your part.

Neither can you reserve the right to cancel the auction although in practice this is unenforceable.

Thanks for the advice Tel, what's the oldest paypal fraud trick in the book (I thought the point of paying paypal was to prevent scams)? I wouldn't sell via paypal outside of eBay but want to make sure if anyone intends on bidding who won't be collecting in person I can be confident it's not a scam before they bid.

Maybe I shouldn't have said bidders can make me an offer (can't edit the listing now as bidding has begun) but always inc my email address for questions to be helpful, hence my feedback score having sold 150+ items. I also use eBay's messages as well (as I realise this means eBay has a record of correspondence if there are any problems).

Paypal terms and conditions state that that you must deliver the goods using a tracked method.

Buyer collects or arranges own courier and then a few days later opens a paypal dispute stating goods not received.

Paypal asks for evidence that you have delivered, you haven't got any, paypal refunds buyer.

If buyer is collecting insist on cash only, you may still have to advertise paypal but you don't have to take it

Including your email address is a big no no, eBay regard any contact out side of eBay as potential fee avoidance and will pull the auction if reported. You then lose your listing fees.

Ah, now I'm confused - I thought cash on collection was OK, but PayPal and collection was not....

Is that right?

unless eBay and paypal now offer different buyer protection there where many cash on pick up scams where by they pay you take your kit and they then go home and opens a dispute claiming he hasn't took delivery , though it's possible they have since changed to offer better protection ?

Yes - that's right.

Dishonest buyers paying with PayPal, collecting the goods, and then claiming their PayPal money back later.

With cash, the power lies with the seller, exactly where it should lie when the goods are being collected.
