An interesting listening session with a jazz pianist; upgrade thoughts

I still remember an episode of 'through the keyhole' which featured the home of Cleo Lane and Johnny Dankworth. The house was packed with albums, cassettes and r2r, their system? An Amstrad Tower.
It kinda proves that you don't need pricey kit to enjoy music.

Dankworth was my composition tutor at the Royal Academy of Music and I used to go round to his place when he taught from home. All the above is true. He was really into classical music as well as jazz. He liked living well - Cleo used to give me smoked salmon sandwiches when I was there for a lesson. Very nice people.

Me and my 2 siblings are contemplating what to do with mums inheritance. Whether to sell the bungalow and land as is , or develop it ourselves and put 6 houses on it …. Be a nice inheritance for “our” kids ..

Professional musicians are the same as 'us' IME, in that some are interested in music (and its reproduction) at home, and others aren't. The difference is that they do tend to be better at critical listening, for obvious reasons. That means the ones who do care about music at home seem to either go for the serious top end or, in the vast majority of cases, buy utter sh*t systems because there's no point.
