Hi,

Does anyone have any recommendations for a reasonably priced ADC? I know Lavry and Benchmark do some stuff but it seems pretty steeply priced to me. Perhaps the Mytek one is ok?

thanks,

Matt

HiFi Trade?
  1. No
I use this one to feed sound from my TV into my digital only Active Studio Monitor second system, as my Sharp LCD only has analogue stereo outs on phono's. Here's the details lifted from my recent NAS thread.

Cheap Stereo RCA to Spdif**(*optical + coax) converter for those who need one ^)Just bought one of these as my nooo active based bedroom setup is digital only & my Sharp 32" LCD TV only has stereo outputs on phonos.

This seems a nice solution & it outputs @16bit/48khz LPCM stereo on both flavours of SPdiff digital. :geek: Perfect for my needs then & it ties the whole system in nicely + means I now also have full access to good sound + vision from my AV sources in the main rig*. **I also use a Marmetek PowerMid XL RF/IR repeater + my old Logitech Harmony 555 remote to enable full control from the comfort of the bedroom.

Anyhoo details here>>>>

Good value then @£22 delivered!

I just thought this well worth posting up for anyone facing a similar conundrum:^. This could also be a way of adding a phono stage to a digital only system or come ter that any analogue stereo source pretty much.

As long as you can live with 'daisy chaining' another device in:roll:, there's no reason why doing this this shouldn't sound perfectly decent:nup:. Lol if you wanted you could add a Linear PSU.....  :D As it goes I've just popped another Universal 5v DC one in my basket at CPC/Farnell....but as the seller doesn't spec the current draw of the supplied psu, I'm holding off on ordering until the ExPro A/D converter arrives & I can check......The 300mv one that's in my basket sounds about right tho' I reckon. :dunno: I know this is somewhat arsey/fooey but I've recently managed to banish all SMPS's that I wuz previously using in there & I'd like to stick ter that really. :geek: :)

I had posted t' above info in t' e-bay links bit, but it will quickly get lost there & is totally pertinent to this thread.
As you've surmised Matt, there isn't a whole lot out there TBH.t This un does seem to work well & is cheap & is ideal for those wanting to feed an analogue source into a DAC/Pre. There are plenty of Pro-Audio USB interfaces that have ADC functionality & more besides. I have a couple of these too:geek:. The ExPro Analogue to SPdif ADC has the advantage of running off its own PSU* (*Wallwart) so is a standalone device that will be an easy fit with traditional Hi-Fi kit. :^
