Hi guys
I thought I'd post a quick message to give my impression of the arcam a18 amp after a month of use. In a previous post that I submitted just after i bought the amp I expressed some dissatisfaction with the sound quality and volume - it turned out that the amp had a defect (a faulty bridge rectifier). After repair I have to say that I'm really enjoying it.
I'm a complete hifi novice and what I'm about write may seem like nonsense - and please tell me if it is? In comparison to my previous nad c340, the sound reproduction seems more subtle and precise. Comparing the two amps, to me it sounds like the nad amp pushed all of the sound to the front, whereas the arcam separates out the instruments (if that makes any sense) and it would appear that my new amp has a warmer, cosier sound. As i say, I could quite possibly be talking crap, I just wanted to give my thoughts.
NB: I also bought my first turntable when I bought the amp. I have very quickly become slightly addicted to finding vinyl of a decent quality at a good price. Many albums, i though would take ages to find at a decent price, but in fact I found most quite easily (I'm aware of various record stores round the country). For example, stone roses - stone roses, herbaliser - very mercenary, shuggie otis - inspiration information, mr scruff - Mrs Scruff.
The other day i discovered an artist that i really need on vinyl (Quantic -Apricot morning). I should have known quantic, as he has worked with mr scruff, and I have heard the name, but I didn't realise he was so good. I highly recommend this album, but most of you probably already know about it.
cheers
Allan
