I've just obtained an Arcam SA10 for a bargain price, boxed and in fantastic 'as new' condition. £280! None available on
eBay for less than £400 at this point.
The only Arcam product I've owned before was the Arcam rPhono, which I liked, but sold some time ago in order to reduce the box count in the main system.
The SA10 has been put into use in my second/office system, its optical input being fed by a PC (via a USB SPDIF converter), and is replacing a NAD D3020 V2. Speakers are Q Acoustics 3010i.
I was not planning a change, but saw the Arcam for a bargain price on
eBay and thought it would be an upgrade. I never liked how hot the NAD D3020 V2 ran (very warm to the touch even when switched off) and its DAC is somewhat dated now, and lacks sparkle.
The Arcam has a nice tone to it, very easy listening which is what i want for this system, it runs cool even after prolonged use, and is built like an absolute tank compared to the rather plasticcy feeling NAD. Seems a little more detailed sound to me which is what I'd hoped. The Arcam remote is also excellent, probably the best I've used for perceived quality.
I have some small gripes - the standby and 'on' LED is crazily bright, really a bit much. And the labelling of the digital inputs would (IMO) be better with simple numbers or coax/opt, rather than being labelled AV, BD and SAT!
Otherwise though, very happy given the cost to change was tiny - I sold the NAD D3020 v2 for £260, so almost cost neutral to change to the Arcam.
