1980's is fairly modern by my standards. Output transformers evolved quite a lot from early 50's to late 70's. Back then if you wanted really good bass performance then you needed lots of iron eg leak stereo 20 etc. Very few invested in what was then expensive iron to get the same performance from smaller transformers like eg Quad. Their QII outputs were smaller but managed double the power for the same bass performance. Since the advent of relatively inexpensive M6 grain orientated steel, output transformers can perform well at modest cost.

I have a pair of their PP 6.6K OPTs. They sound excellent, really good. I also have a lot of their 10H 100mA chokes, which also are good. These are from the Maplins era, turn of the century approx.

Any experience with Primary Windings anyone? Their range seems quite well placed, just curious :)

I also have a pair of the Danbury Push Pull 6K6 to 8ohms transformers. Mine came from the original Maplin Millenium amplifier kit from the 1990’s, which I scrapped, but kept the transformers. I used them, along with the original Millenium mains transformers, to build a pair of my own design balanced EL34 PP mono block amps in Hammond walnut chassis.

The sound is excellent.
