Many years ago I used to tell friends visiting UKthat my impression was drivers here appeared to be more courteousin general esp further up north of London you go.

However, I feltthere appear to a distinct change ingeneral behaviour.Need to drive a fair bit recently along M77 to work recently. Felt people are less willing to gives way to people coming out. Another aspect is anyone who dare to drive along the right hand lanewill have to encounter nutters who just zoom at top speed right into their back as ifit wasa rightgivento them bytheir gods, everyone just have to move over quickly.

This morning appear tobe my turn.Maybe one should have followed mom's advice, if some one show you the third finger you pretend to notnotice. Sohero return the universal sign of peace. Fat bloke decided to trail me for the next few miles. When I didn't appear to be bothered by his driving at 3 feet behind my back at 70 mph on the left lane he got even more crazy.

Are certain TV programmes like Top Gear and F1 to blame for this? Maybe all this is nothing and this is my krama for being asceptics who post one to many irrevelent posts in hifi forums.

Noticed that since I arrived in end 2001, even in this short period...

Correction: There are too many NON-English people on English roads...

If I take my example, you would be thinking that the average British driver is more reckless since 2001.

No, you are wrong, it's just that I started driving on British roads in 2001.

Same in France, what will the French think of British respect for others, safe driving when they are overtaken between Calais and Paris by a "mad English driver" (who knows I am French in a "GB" car) cruising at 110 mph?

I am being severe with myself. ButI have to take the example of myself as it's the only way for not being taxed of being arrogant, racist, xenophobic, sexist.

But imagine all the hords of Aliens who come into Britain by hundreds of thousands :shock:every year, some with fake driving licence, no insurance.

Some come from countries where human life is so cheap it isn't even worth stopping a lorry when bumping into pedestrians...

Some women from Arabic countries start to drive in the UK, because it's forbidden to them in their home country. So they have to learn on British motorways.

It's not easy to drive with a Burqa...

Nationality test should be coupled with a Driving test!

Obviously all those bad manners of these Aliens and bloody foreigners (incl. myself) will deteriorate the good manners of the British drivers, who will be fed-up of always stopping their car for people who never stop theirs.

Or is it that these foreigners take the good manners of the British?

Discuss...

It's true being in a respectful environment enclines a driver to be respectful with others.

My family admires how careful, courteous, cautiousI am. I was not too bad by French standards. But I am even more patient and respectful.

BUT, after 2 hours in Paris, I revert to Parisian manners. :Upset:

How do you do Calais - Paris in 2 hours?

That's right. If you are in lane 3 you should be overtaking. if not, move over for faster drivers. Simple really.

Did you know there were more Motorways in the 30s in Germany than in 2005 in the UK? (Obviously reported to the 2 countries' sizes...)

Bamako%20Cab-City%20traffic

African traffic (Bamako, Mali)

I have been in Bamako, used these cheap cabs (better than the mini-buses where they fit 30 persons in a Toyota small van designed for 7)

The drivers were the ultimatum mad drivers but so friendly it was OK.

Traffic lights not working: Bulbs stolen by locals (sold on local markets, re-used in houses)

No safety belts: It gives bad luck apparently

Lights often not working: The drivers are enlightened by the "good spirits of the forest and the night" which gives them a superior sight at night...

If you say it...

Indicators: You have got to be joking

Generally speaking the standard of driving is getting worse, along with road etiquette/manners (and yes a lot of it is to do with the influx of drivers from the eastern block - we have a lot of them where i am). I recently started doing a journey again i used to do a lot 5 years ago. The number of absolute nutters who think they're amazing drivers has increased enormously. Some of the things ive seen in the last couple of months beggar belief.

One of the worst incidents was a guy in battered escort overtake a van by blindly swinging out and the guy coming the other way (std A road) actually had to perform an emergency stop (ie he HAD to stop completely from at least 60, and very nearly didnt make it)to avoid a horrendous accident, there simply wasnt the room. He was either drunk, stupid, had a death wish or a combination thereof.

There are many reasons behind driving in this country being a nightmare. In many ways it actually reflects the state of the country and the people who live here - generally not very good and increasingly full of f*cking idiots.
