Are these a worthwhile upgrade over standard Ipod earphones?

Yes.

I have a pair and they are the bomb. The were reviewed in a few HiFi mags on both sides of the Atlantic too and got rave reviews for what they are. I use mine with my Philips GoGear HDD6330/17.

A vast improvement over the standard iPod ones.
Haven't heard the MX500s, but the CX300s give you a stunning sound for £25-£30. Extremely comfortable too. I've also gota pair of the more expensive Shure e2c and they haven't had a look in since I got the Senns.

Another vote for these. They still can be significantly bettered by etys if your prepared to fill your ipod with lossless files, but £ for £ when using 320 bitratesor below Ive yet to find better.

  1. No
the phones you link to should be an improvement (though you might want to be careful of fakes...) but another vote for the cx300 - brilliant for the money.

I use ety earphones, but £ for £ - unless you need the isolation you get from the etys - I'd say the cx300 are better value...
