Hi guys,

I bought recently the L300 pure sound on sale on these very pages..

Now, my system isn't too shabby prior to the big box arrival; I ran my opus straight into my amps via a balanced connection.

There may be others who think the same as I did, hence this post. HOW can adding something between the cd and amp be an improvement? I seriously thought I'd audition, and move on...HOW WRONG I WAS!

Many consider the pre to be the key component in a system...I know hear why...

This big box has utterly transformed my sound, built on all that is good in my system, but improved it...massively. Huge bass, tactile textures, space, massive soundstage, 3d imaging.... I can't go on, because I have music to listen to...

This is for anyone wondering what a good pre will bring to the party...imagine watching a good picture on your iPhone screen...then putting it through the best hi def projector onto a 15 foot by 15 foot screen...(obviously with a good original source)... That huge image on the wall is what IMHO a good pre will deliver...

its the only way I can describe it.....

mega chuffed...delighted...pig in shit...ta ra, tuneage calls..

LOL, yes - my pre-amp is my most expensive box. More even than the speakers. There is a reason for this.

The L300 is a great piece of kit. :^

I ran an L300 with Opus 21 for a while and I still think it was probably my best ever CD front end, and one of the best combinations I have heard.

If you aren't already doing so, try and get hold of the correct DIN to phono cable. Using the DIN output of the Opus bypasses the inbuilt digital volume control (and a couple of other circuit bits I think). IME the results were surprisingly different and a further improvement.

Yep the L300 is a sublime bit of kit. Even my more modest set up that I have recently put together was lifted considerably by it.

Congrats and hope you have many happy hours of enjoyment.

Good stuff Adam. I can well believe it, wasn't ever that big a fan of the volume section of the Opus. Must be sounding fantastic now, I second what Richard says about the din outputs.Enjoy what you're hearing and then try that tweak when you're used to the sound. I reckon you'll hear further improvements.

Well voice_coil I could have well believed that it may be short lived... but no.... the system still delivers music in a sublime fashion..... DELIGHTED! (Still!)
Real "world class" pre, glad you're still enjoying it :^

See here for Kondo cable of said variety(nothing to do with me):

The preamp is the most important electronic bit in the system (second only to the phono stage in vinyl set-ups). Glad to hear you are enjoying your L300.

Hummm, hey guys....here am I right to think that as good as the L300 is, any very good high end preamp would have made a better job that an old tech. cd player directly driving his amps. I don't know about you guys but I know of just a couple RECENT cd players/dacs that make a good job as preamps... Berkeley Alpha DAC II, Nad M51, Aurum Acoustics Integris, etc....IMHO a handful of new very good digital volume implementations... ;-)
