Does anyone know if the innards, amp packs, crossovers etc would be the same for an active 150 as they would be in a 50 or 100 active ?

To my knowledge they share identical innards. Only the cabinet size and bass element size is different.

My SCM 50 ASLTs are heading to ATC the middle of next month for refurbishment of the amps as necessary and upgrade to the newer ATC tweeters, I've ben waiting a long time for the opportunity as there has been a back-log due to Peter Guppy having broken his arm late last year.

Hi has anyone done a passive to active update ?
If so what did it cost , how long did it take and are you happy ?
I asked about my SCM40 to upgrade to Actives. ATC said they’d not consider this but to approach my dealer to PX them.

Might be different for the Classic range though, and I know they have at least one demo pair - especially made - where you can swap passive for active.

With Classic series the backside connector panel is same size for both, passive and active. It's easy to change from passive to active for classic series.

For 40's, the back panel of passive version is very different from actives. To upgrade from passive to active, you'd need to cut a bigger hole on the backside of the speakers for the active amp pack to fit in.

An interesting read, as I’ve been thinking about the same subject for a while now.
Take the special amps out of my 100’s anniversary’s and put them into a pair of 50’s classics as I’m thinking to downsize. One problem though, is that the anniversary towers come with a rather large transformer, which is isolated and attached to the acrylic base. I sent a message to ATC recently asking something similar, but didn’t get a reply - first time that’s happened in 30 years of owning ATC’s.
My remedy for the transformer was to attach it underneath the cabinet of the 50’s. Just a (crazy?) thought….

I saw your ad for the Anniversaries. It's simply a stunning looking pair. Looking at the pictures from the ad, it looks like the Anniversary edition would use the same size connector panel/amp pack as the regular Classic series. So in theory, it should be possible to downsize. The transformer is another question though...

For a few times I've had to wait for a very long time to get a reply from ATC. I think they're extremely busy, as usual. I just read a post from ATC facebook group of someone who upgraded their tweeter from SEAS to ATC in-house for a SCM100ASL pair. The wait time, including shipping from Denmark to UK and back, was almost six months(!) I can't imagine waiting this long (without music!) if I need service for my ATC's sometime in future. My 50ASL pair is only around two years old so I should be ok for a very long time though.

Thanks Patu.
I’ve moved into a smaller apartment and realistically the 100’s are too big, so I was just toying with the idea of buying a second hand pair of 50’s and using my amps and then sell my 100’s as a classic pair with a superb cabinet!
I’d have to describe them correctly of course, but they would effectively be 100 ATSL’s.
The amp packs on the anniversary have larger cooling fins, as they run hotter than the normal amps.
Alternatively I could buy/swap with a second hand pair of 50’s ASL’s and be done with it.
Or, I could sell the whole system and take the DSP route, to fit neatly, with fewer boxes, into the new listening area - but I love ATCs!
Option, options…
