Time for a shake-up on the digital side - for sale is my trusty Audio Note CDT-Two/II CD transport. One of the best solutions out there for redbook CD playback - see review here: https://parttimeaudiophile.com/2018/07/06/digital-throwback-audio-note-uk-cdt-two-ii-cd-transport/

I’ve quite enjoyed taking this to several streaming/file-based fans’ houses to demonstrate that spinning silver disks frequently prove superior to many even quite expensive, dedicated streaming setups and that comparing streaming to the sort of iffy SPDIF out you typically get from an old CDP is not remotely the end of the story: all bits are not equal, and your ears can tell the difference. Many are waking up to this fact, as evidenced by the slow but steady rise once again in CD sales, and increasing interest in transports across the board with several all new models being released in recent years..

I bought it directly from Audio Note and I have the original box and of course the Audio Note remote. However given the delicacy of the mechanism, it’s being sold for collection/meet up only - obviously if you come to collect you can hear it in my setup, otherwise I’m happy to meet anywhere on the SW sector of the M25 between Heathrow and Gatwick, M4 between Heathrow and Newbury, M40 Oxford Services, or as far as Winchester on the M3.

In terms of spec, here’s the blurb from Audio Note:

  • Custom modified Philips CD Pro2LF CD mechanism
  • Power supply with 3 separate mains transformers
  • Audio Note (UK) AN-V silver cable for internal digital signal transfer
  • Silver wired digital output transformer using thin laminated core
  • Audio Note (UK) Tantalum resistors and Black Gate capacitors in the power supply (Black Gates are not fitted in the current version of the transport as AN UK ran out a few years ago).
  • The CDT-Two/II is equipped with both single ended / RCA 75 Ohm SPDif and balanced / XLR 110 Ohm AES / EBU, transformer coupled, digital outputs.

List price for this is around £4600. Offered at £1650.
