Beatles and John Lennon Box Set Coming October

Details are sketchy and unconfirmed — but two major Beatles box sets might be coming our way over the next few months.

Beatlefan magazine has heard from two sources that “a multi-disc Revolver box set is planned for October 26th or October 28th.” Producer Giles Martin revealed last year that a Revolver set was in the works — but no official announcement has been made.

Also said to be released around John Lennon's 82nd birthday on October 9th is the already-announced Some Time In New York City box set — which was also previously said to be coming this year but with zero additional details. Beatlefan's source stated the set will be “including some sort of Blu-ray disc.” Again, no official word has been offered from either Lennon's label or estate.

The Revolver extras have been floating around on the WWW for some time. I have heard of the equivalent of 4 CDs worth of files floating around last year noted ‘Revolver Recording Sessions 1-4’

It’s the album with multiple takes basically, no additional songs with a couple of stripped back versions, the odd mono mix. I’d guess that a lot of this will end up in it but really there’s a limit to the number of Yellow Submarine takes anyone can listen to

My 5 year old Grandson would beg to differ. I was wondering what would be on the Revolver box set. I will buy it anyway and Some Time In New York City to add to my collection.

I listened to the new mix of Taxman they have released early and they have done a good job on it compared to the original stereo mix.

Best part of 200 quid on Amzn.
Rough Trade approx £165.

Am a self confessed Beatles nut.
And if I didn't own a mono 606-1* (withdrawn) 1st pressing, this new release might have been tempting.
But its quite possible to acquire an original 1st day of release copy, in mono (the mix The Beatles themselves approved) for this sort of money.

Early Beatles albums sound arguably better in mono as you dont have the separation of instruments & vocal issues of the stereo albums.
So its good to read that a mono version is inc in the box set.
Although which mono version I wonder?
Hopefully the OTT price will come down in the New Year (As it did with Let It Be)

I'm really looking forward to this Revolver rerelease, but the prices are out of this world... for the 5 cd box set it's 130 euros and the 2 cd set it's 22 euros... And for what, only an extra disk of monos (that's seperately available for way less money) and some outtakes that are probably on Anthology. I might still give in for the box and the booklet but damn it's still one hell of a price to pay.

Absolutely superb Bazzer. The clarity and separation is off the scale. IMO a must have.
