http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-23344423It wasn't a bribe guv, i just wanted him not to do anything silly like tell the British Tax Authorities stuff n the like...would of cost me a packet Guv. What's £29 million between friends anyway......
I'm a huge F1 fan and have been to a few races (only other forums i frequent as well), There is no doubt Bernie did the sport good in the past but he is now nothing but a slimey crook selling GP'S to the highest bidders where there really isn't a fanbase and nothing but empty grandstands in the desert, its time for F1 to move forward without Bernie but it wont happen until he dies :-(

Hell, with all the expensive weddings lately he must need a regular income from somewhere, after all who hasn't done a wee "cash job" here.?

There's an absolutely amazing circuit not far south from me called 'Hampton Downs'. It was the brainchild of two racers who were disappointed when they couldn't get into Pukekohe Raceway when they wanted to.

It's taken 15 years, but they have pretty much self-funded the entire circuit through the sale of land for homes and circuit-side residences for race week(end)s, and commercial property sales. They have had the backing of one of the big banks here who have treated it as a flagship venture.

The whole enterprise is resoundingly welcomed by the NZ government and anyone who has been there. It is a wonderful achievement, and completely compliments the Raceway which is only 20km or so away.

It is <ahem> 'allegedly' F1 ready, but will never be sanctioned as such because some jumped little twerp wants far too much money to sign his name to say it is suitable. The total cost is/was around NZ$60m, and it's nearly that much again to get the last signature required. So it'll not happen.

I doubt anyone is going to be disappointed at this stage. Ecclestone hardly needs the money, and the circuit is busy enough as it is.

Still, goes to show the monopoly one person holds on the F1 circus.

The problem there is that there's loads of Far and Middle East countries that are happy to pay the money, and they're queuing up to stage a GP. So much so there's no French GP for the time being!

Bernie just likes the power from having a lot of strings to pull. I can't see him relinquishing it until health or some sort of coup forces him. He should have gone a few years back imho.

Past master turned weasel. Shit, it's not like be needs the money is it !
Believe me as he has got richer his deals have got less "artistic", not more. Nowadays businesses can't operate the way they did 30 odd years ago when I started in F1.

Bernie has brought a lot of money in F1. When I started there was only Monaco and Britain on the telly and there was no job security. Now it is big business. All the promotion has been down to Bernie. He will be an impossible act to follow since the power he has can not be passed on to another person.

Slimy crook is a bit harsh, but the way Bernie operates has mellowed -a lot- over the years due to tightening up of laws and so forth.

Don't imagine for a second he is any more "slimy" or a "crook" now than he has always been, to use your words.
