I'm going for the electric rice cooker. Perfect rice ever time (assuming you wash until the water runs clear) plus it makes excellent risotto, paella and, with a bit of mucking around, biriani.

Good idea! The modern one we bought is very good, but it doesn't have the indestructible feel to it our old one had.

Hang on, I challenge you in the pedantic stakes ! Coffee isn't edible, unless you eat the grains. Drinkable, certainly. Not that it really matters, an expresso machine is undoubtedly a useful gadget.
