Hi, looking to replace the input valves on my Beard P101.

Looking for best low end grunt with subdued mid to highs.

Any recommendations?

Cheers,

Chris.

81 = Philips/Valvo 6201 (df6)
83 = Telefunken
IMO ofcourse, using 6201s in my Lector CDP & TFK 83s in my dac & PS.
Don't currently use any 82s.

I have ECC82 in my preamp. I have about 6 different valves I play with. The one with the most bottom end is definitely:

It’s an Ei 12AU7 (ecc82) made in the former Yugoslavia. It is no longer made now.

Substitute the ecc82‘s for Phillips JAN 5814a or 5814a GE ’s .Those EI’s are excellent but the 5814a’s are Superb tubes ! Not stupid prices either ..

Box plate Mullards for the 83s, general opinion is Tfk are neutral across the range but, as ever, this is circuit dependent.
The EI are Philips in disguise, one of my favourites. Another decent call is RCA black plate clear top 82s. So many choices o_O

Thanks for the help everyone. I have found all the valves with the right batch / factory codes on eBay, all nos. Just have to decide between Millard’s and telefunken for the 83s. As I say, I’m looking for low end grunt - so any advice welcome

The 82s aren’t that expensive anyway, but Strewth, the 83s, may have to sell one of my livers on the black market!

(I know I only have one liver for those wanting to point out the obvious- just reciting a Homer Simpson line)

At the other end of the scale, I have a Siemens which is noticeably brighter, cleaner, leaner than my others. IMG_20221114_094522652.jpg
