Rega Apollo

Densen Beat B100 mk IV (don't know the difference between mk's tbh)

Dynaudio Contour 1.1

(with Krystal Kables Sterling and Chord Odyssey wires)

is awesome.

Well, I would say that wouldn't I? To justify my downgrade and my purchases. Giving myself a pat on the back, etc. Nope. That's not the case at all. My new system sounds simply fabulous. Only had all the bits together, as a system, for a day so no detailed review for now.

So this is a bit of a blog then.

First impressions are of a very clean and detailed sound with great speed. It isn't clean and detailed in a clinical way - it has a sense of verve and liveliness which provides a very foot-tapping sound. Seems more natural than a similarly priced entry-level Naim system (such as the cd5i/nait5i/dyn combo I had for a few months).

Strat, I'll be keeping this set up for a couple of years at least. Can't be arsed to swap any more. It's been a right polava. Floorstanding speakers for instance are a right pain to shift about - especially when they weigh as much as they do.

Wiggers, the Densen is a damn fine amp. Listened to a couple more cd's last night - EST - 'Strange Place for Snow' and Lambchop - 'Is A Woman'...

The system doesn't seem to miss very much. Captures the eerie effects in the Lambchop recording quite vividly and doesn't miss a 'beat'. Appropriate name for the amp because the amp is as fast as my blood pressure is high. Erm. Yes, as a whole, the system hasexcellent synergy. Deep bass is missing but what is there is more than sufficient to drive a track along. The double bass in the EST recording seems stronger than with some previous amps (is this a mild lifting of the mid bass - as the Dyn's and Densen are said to do this).

The Double Bass typically has a frequency range from 40 Hz to 200 Hz so is well within the compass of the 1.1s when room gain is taken into account.
