yes, its in much better nick, and a bit cheaper (not too much different when you factor in the extra delivery cost). Fingers crossed, there is so much interesting stuff on hifido.co.jp that if I don't get that, I'll probably pick up something else.

Don't you have electical issue to deal with if you get it from Japan? How are you going to sell it

if you don't like it?

The CDP-R1 is quite old, pre 90s, could be difficult to find spare.

I have the CDP-X707ES for over a year now.

Never felt the need to change.

don't really mind Jesse - The optical blocks are impossible to replace on most 90's Sony cdps - right up to X777ES, so its not much different. I've already got a step-down transformer for the Voltage difference - so that shouldn't be a problem.

I doubt if things have advanced that much since the CDP/DAS combination

there is a DCD-S10 on the japanese site which I considered, but its quite expensive.

No I meant the DP-S1 & DA-S1, but just noticed that it will work out at 550,000 yen, so a bit out of your budget ... at the moment.

I do remember that review - but if I was going for a Yamaha CDP it would have to be the unservicable CD1, I like to live dangerously :lmao:

Also, I don't want to copy my WHOLE system from David Price

will watch the Yamaha though - so if its going for a song - I'll put in a bid

I just missed out on a CDX-10000 last week - they had one on hifido

was only £500

Biscuit be very careful buying an early Sony SACD player.

I had no end of problems with their players all having the same fault.

That player was the 555ES which was a stunning player when it worked.

I had 3 of them before Sony informed me that they could not solve the issues and gave me my money back.

I had the same issues with the other players in that range and the 777 was one of those.

Honest gov avoid at all costs as there are major probs with the dual lasers and they stop reading the TOC on redbook.
