Was looking to pick up some short lengths of van damme blue 2.5mm cable and was watching an auction for 6m used, it sold for £10.61 plus £5.59 postage (£17.20). You can buy new 6m lengths on eBay for £12.30 delivered ..... :clout:

People are lazy and greedy and don't think of looking elsewhere. They also get caught up in auctions.

I remember years ago an eBay seller offering a certain mobile phone (brand new in sealed box) which normally sold for £100 for £75.00.

He got quite a few orders. Buyers were most pissed off when their phones arrived direct from Amazon who were offering them for sale at £50.

Everytime the guy got an order on eBay he bought one on Amazon and had it delivered direct, I thought it very funny and quite admired the guy for his quick thinking, but buyers seemed to think he had ripped them off.

I once sold a second hand Cambridge Audio phono stage on eBay for £10 more than a new one cost from Richer Sounds.

It used to happen regularly that classical CDs I put up on eBay auction sold for more than you could get them for on Amazon Market Place. :^

Sadly, buyers seem to be catching on to that one now. :(

The pricing of CDs on Amazon is an interesting one.

Many are offered at 1p by the very large buyers like Zoverstocks (alias Music Magpie, eStocks), but they make all their profit on the postage costs - they have negotiated a very low rate because of the vast quantities they send, and do not combine postage costs when you buy multiple disks, so things are not so cheap as they appear.

The other day I did an experiment with Zoverstocks - I put three CDs at 1p into my basket, but did not buy them. Within 24 hours two of those CDs had gone up in price considerably - one to 38p, the other to over £2! The stock level of both items had not changed. This shows that their monitoring software is always working to sniff out a profit. I can't blame them for that quite honestly.

There are, of course, still superb bargains to be had both on Amazon and eBay.

:^

I buy a lot of CDs from zoverstocks on Amazon.

Sometimes multiple purchases come in a single envelope, so they make a lot on postage then!

But the service is superb and the discs are always good. I can't fault them, tbh. :^

Generally, when I put CDs in my Amazon basket, the price comes down like they are tempting me to buy them!
