Bristol Show 2023 - Danger, trip caution!

No, not Bristol’s clean air zone. Much more mundane. And painful.

On my way there yesterday morning, walking from Cabot Circus carpark at 10:10 I tripped on an uneven paving slab. Only the pavement broke my fall. No time to reach out. Face took the impact!

Two buildings down from the Show hotel is the Castlemead office block. The paving in front of their building is severely compromised. The reception staff kindly called an ambulance. Paramedics sent me to A&E at Bristol Royal infirmary. I was there until 8pm. Upshot:- After Nurse, doctor, x rays and CT scan, then Maxillary surgeon, I have shattered sinus, two fractured bones around eye socket. Might need operation, Registrar deciding next week. All staff were excellent I must add.

TAKE CARE! I simply didn’t spot the defects in time.

Last picture is this morning. Roughly 24 hours from first pic to last.

Oh S*&$!!! That really is suffering for your hobby/passion. I hope your recovery goes well and is as speedy and possible.

This. It's unacceptable and could have ended a lot more badly.

Easy said than done. Some years ago I broke my arm when tripping over a broken uneven pavement stone. I took it up with the council with photographic and medical evidence but got nothing. There argument was that their measurement "proved" the pavement was not uneven enough. They soon replaced the pavement stone though.

Need a better lawyer.
I got a very badly sprained ankle going over on a sunken Toby in the pavement.
Nine months later £2500.
Photos and doctors letter used.
They paid all the costs too no win no fee.
Don't ask don’t get.

Sorry to read about this Nick, hope it isn’t too painful and that you recover reasonably quickly. I suppose the only compensation to missing the show is that what you have at home doubtless sounds better than most of the rooms at Bristol.

Thank you. I took a few pics and I need to establish if it counts as pavement, or forecourt. That will change who I need to approach. Have reported to Bristol City Council via fixmystreet.

I’ve read that it needs to stick up 1” or more, but it think it does.

I’ve read that it needs to stick up 1” or more, but it think it does.

Shocking state indeed don’t let them bum you off.
Dig in and don’t take any sloppy dismissal.
I wish you well I know it’s not the money but someone has to pay or at least compensate you for your pain and suffering not to mention trauma.
Your injuries look bad enough but the confidence takes a bigger bruising.
I hope you get to enjoy your system and put it behind you.
I hate to see that.

Being serious, that's horrible. Glad it wasn't worse and all the best with the recovery.

As a silver lining think of all the extra hifi/music you can buy with the compo.
