Here we go

I am thinking of running my speaker cable through the lounge wall, into the garage, along the garage wall and back into the lounge to connect to the speakers. Reasons for doing this is to have the cables out of sight.

Now the question is, is this going to affect sound quality,

Only hide your speakers cables if they arecheap and ugly.

If they cost alot have them firmly on show.

i wouldn't imagine so, unless your garage was either damp or the length of a football pitch or ran next to a high voltage cable

could hurt your wallet though.

It will be no more than 4 or 5 metres. It will run behind the lounge wall as they are adjoining walls. I should imagine running next to the lounge wall should help keep it a little warmer. I suppose I could always run some insulating foam or something round it to make sure its dry and again a little warmer,

It will be either Naca 5 or Chord Epic, its not going to be "expensive " cable,

no problem - i took my speaker cable through wall, to the greatoutdoorsthen sheathed it in heavy duty plastic tubing before bringing it back in on the other side of the chimney breast about 4m - no discernable difference at all - mind you cable lengths are equal !

Some Naim Nac 4 or Nac 5 (which I cannot remember but it was black) spent a few years used to wire up an Antenna at my old work location, outside and exposed to the elements, I ended up taking it down to wire up the work stereo and it still sounded OK.

I don't think it would be a problem.. Im about to bury my cable under either the carpet or the floorboards. If I go the later route mine will be exposed to a bit of cold too

Hide the cheap cable away in the garage and get some hose pipe and paint it to look like real high end stuff and have that on show instead.

On second thoughts just thread the cheap cable through the hose pipe and you are there without having to drill through any walls.

Actually running it through some plastic conduit might not be bad idea - save the mice chewing through it
