...........or do you get bored of your hifi gear.
I admit I can only listen for about 3-4 hours max. Then I find I get distracted and have to go and do something else.
I don't know if it's me or the gear. I suspect its me getting restless and just wanting to do something else, more useful, more sociable etc.

Many times I have had extended periods of listening, 12+ hours but normally alcohol is also involved so not sure how that nulls the restlessness etc :)

Since Covid and subsequent WFH (now go to office maybe once per fortnight) I've built a home office system which has got a fair few hours on it! Started with a streaming/cd set up now have gone full vinyl. I find when Im really stressed with work (which has been a fair bit recently unfortunately) it gets neglected

I don’t get bored on listening but I rarely find any very long slots for listening. Everyday life needs attention as well. And after a while I get physically restless if sitting down.

I could listen all day long. But I'm busy most of the time, but after work can't wait to put on some music.

I must confess, I listen to music almost all day, and night. Wake up to radio, sometimes from 5am. Music in shower. Radio On in Kitchen when cooking etc. Music while gardening and driving. Music in shed, greenhouse, & workshop. Music while relaxing, like now. Serious music sessions later. Go to sleep listening to radio

If I consider listening (i.e. doing nothing else apart from concentrating on the music and perhaps a bit of sociable conversation) as opposed to hearing (which could be any old situation with music on in the background etc) then I don't think I have ever done it for more than about 4 hours tops. But it's the same for any activity really - watching telly, gardening, cooking, driving - I've had enough by about that time and want to do something else

All day and all night, the hairs on the back of my neck raise… I feel compelled to listen…it’s absolutely incredible I’m very content with the system I have put together. It’s a case of the system being extraordinary and without doubt I love the way it reproduces sound, so for me it’s both myself and the stereo.

I sit at my computer a lot during the day, and everything is on my Mac Pro - music, TV, Internet etc etc. It's my sole source. No vinyl.

So yes, I listen a lot during the day but it's to a variety of things - ripped CDs on a hard disc, TV, radio, YT etc etc. I follow the news a lot from Al Jazeera, Euronews, France 24 and BBC.

The only time I listen attentively to just music is when I go to bed. I always play an hour's playlist to fall asleep to. The content varies, mostly things like Steely Dan, Modern Gospel, Herbie Hancock ballads, some Ravel or Debussy..... I usually fall asleep after 3 or 4 tracks.

What I don't do very often is listen to an entire "album". I have everything in iTunes or YT playlists so it would be selected tracks.

I listen for probably 14 hours a day. Its wonderful reflecting & also finding something new. Needless to say that the system has to be one I can live with for long hours. :)
Serious listening only after 10 at night though.

My system is on pretty much all the time I'm in the house and have my eyes open. As to critical listening, I sometimes have 2-4 hour stints when in the mood, other than that it's running as a background to my life. Mostly that's reading, though I do dip in and out when a track on RP or a CD catches my attention. As I've mentioned in other threads, my system spends most of its life as a bloody expensive radio.

Back in the day, there was never a time when I didn't have music on in the flat. I'd delay going out until the current LP side had finished, and the first thing I'd do when I got back in was put some more music on.

Circumstances have changed since then; I listen to a lot more Radio 4 than I did. If I had this place decorated properly I'd have more gear out and turned on for whichever room I'm in.

Interesting diversity.
It seems to me that a really good system helps reduce the boredom factor but guilt and life butt in and eventually take over.
I'd love to create a system that held my attention for longer but that is not going to happen in a busy household in a terraced street with neighbours.

Music is on for most of my waking hours at home.

I've suffered a bit from insomnia due, I suspect, to a mild form of Long Covid - YouTube music videos on my phone and closed back headphones have kept me sane and happy through this.

Music on car radio when driving.

Music via IEMs while out walking on my own. Not when with the Mrs as that would be rude as she likes to chat.

Music is very seldom genuinely background , part of my focused attention is almost always on it.

I get an hour or so, just have a lot more going on. I couldn’t actually ‘sit’ and listen to it for any longer than 2 hours. Maybe have it on while doing something else, but wouldn’t use the main system for that.

Same here, that's enough for me, not because system is fatiguing which it isnt, it's just that I like to stretch my legs, or read a book or watch something on netflix or radio 4. Music and hifi are great but there are other ways to spend ones time :)
That said I have just come home after being out for a couple of days with a night away and first thing I did was pour a beer on turn on hifi.

I'm lucky in that I have two days a week when my wife is at work and I have the house to myself. On those days I will switch the system on as soon as I get downstairs, 8am usually and listen to Radio paradise followed by popmaster, then I'll switch to vinyl playback until around 5pm. The system then stays on as anything that we watch on tv comes soundwise through it. My amp can be on 12hours a day, which IMHO is wonderful. I love my music and system, isn't that what this is all about?
Cheers Ady
