Hi all,

I have loose laminate flooring, and I have decided to do W2W carpeting? I will then be putting up Summits on the carpet, but there will be good decouplers like Townshend Audio between Summits and the carpets?

Can these floorboards underneath pose any problem? Do I need to put wood flooring underneath that is better set? Don't want to spend that money if I can avoid it. For those who are confused by the question, this is relating to room acoustics

You need carpet grippers.....lots & lots......They need to be blessed by Druids & you will get far better SQ if you orient them in the same direction as the ley line closest to your house. :^

What are Druids and what are lay lines?

I was planning to use Durafit and put the carpet on with an underlay beneath, without grippers, so that when I sell the flat, I can just take them off without spoiling the laminate. It's good quality carpet, so it should stop the reflections, but not sure if the floor will continue to bounce beneath?

Here's an idea take a subscription out on these publications for starters for some inspiration>>> .http://www.housetohome.co.uk/idealhomemagazine. http://www.cheshirelife.co.uk/home.

We do have a DIY sub forum on here you know. Although I'm not sure that regular posters there would see this as an audio related question either TBH. Maybe try the Public Bar. This is clearly not a 2ch audio related thread. :nup:

Sorry, this is an audio question. The question is whether the loose floor boards below the carpet will cause a problem with acoustics, or is the carpet sufficient and whether it's loose or fixed below will not matter to bass

Think the only reflections you really want to worry about are the reflections of your speakers hitting the floor if your thinking of setting them up on loose floorboards

The "loose" floorboards you refer to are referred to as a floating floor, and this is how most laminate is laid, it all clips or is glued together to form a continuous floor. Carpet laid on top of it will be fine.

I'm sure these are all market developments he is fully aware of. No doubt some evil £££££ plans are already in place, prolly with a range of further enhancements at added cost.

I'd say you need to properly isolate the speakers from the laminate+carpet combo. Have you considered heavy granite plinths, under the speakers, in addition to the decouplers?

Try it with the decouplers first, if you have them. I think you could pick up some cheap plinths from the local DIY shop later and give these a try too.

Hi realized that my floorboards don't make the floor even. So if I place the rack down, it rocks back and forth, and a carpet on it won't change that. What's an easy option? Will a marble slab below the rack cure that

Not on Quadraspire - which rack is good for adjusting feet? Also, the same will happen with my speakers. If I put plinths or so below them, each plinth might be at a slightly uneven level w.r.t. each other. How bad is that, or is it ok as long as as speakers are stable on top of the plinth
