A mate of mine wants to resurrect this old deck he has. The motor works but the cartridge - a Shure EJ T2 is knackered. Anybody know of a cheap replacement that can be used. Apparently anything conforming to IEA according to the manual. Suggestions and where I can get it would be welcome as muggins here will probably be called upon to fit it. Which will be interesting as I don't have any appropriate tools.

It should take a standard cartridge in the SME type detachable shell.

Standard recommendation for a budget cartridge is the Audio Technica AT95E which can be had for around £25.

An alternative is something like this which comes pre mounted on a shell and is pretty much plug, balance and play.

Ideally it needs aligning perfectly with a protractor but it won't be far out as supplied. Depends how serious your friend is about his vinyl and how much he has.

Haven't touched my PL12D for a while, but the AT95E does fit and isn't a bad choice.

The only tool you need is a protractor, which you can download from vinylengine.
