Hello,

I was wondering if any of you have experience with any of the following CD players ?

Exposure 1010 (new and seemingly devoid of any reviews)

Rotel RCD-991

Primare D20

I really want to buy new stock, as I dont really want the chance of faults developing on older players. But Im not finding a lot of choice at my price point - £400, so this is why Im looking at used. Im looking for a player with some pep and dynamics but without harshness or treble brightness.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Stephen

Sorry not a fan of Rega. Owned an Apollo and Mira and wasnt impressed. Its just my personal taste, because many people love Rega.

LOL Kernow. I do appreciate your advice and your consistency of suggestions ! The Quad is a rare beast to find - like a yeti.

Can only comment on the Rotel - when a good friend acquired a Rega Apollo he demmed the 991 and we thought it mechanical and uninvolving. Excellent build though and I love Rotel amps.

Roob, yes that was the one I did manage to find ! Thanks. The review describes exactly what Im looking for in a cd player, excepting the limitations of price point. It seems £400 is like a no go zone for new cd players - you have the £2-300 priced units and then wooo - you are talking £800 for something decent.

No problem. Options and tastes of course.

Cheers

I would take a punt on the Exposure if I was in your shoes.
Yes its looking increasingly likely that I will. Might demo the Marantz CD/PM6004 combo before I grab the Exposure though, just to be sure.

Thanks.

The Pioneer PD10 looks a stone bargin - SACD capable, digital outputs and it's reduced to £170 at Richer Sounds. If you need more bells and whistles the PD-30 can be had online for £250 or so (rrp £350). Pioneer stuff is good, and very reliable. These players use the same universal transport mechanism as quite a few high-end boutique players, so when you need to upgrade just add a DAC.

Indeed this new Pioneer range is very promising. Shame there arent more English language reviews yet though, apart from WHF.

A buddy has the Marantz combo, but the 003 (last year's). It's excellent and gave me proper food for thought...

As an owner of an expensive CD player, when mine dies, I'll be grabbing 3 of the Marantz ones and experimenting with DACs to see me to the end of my days!
