Thanks Lurch
Yes I've been oggling this one ! The thread has thrown up some various options so am mentally juggling it all ))
I can vouch for the seller . I would use it first as a cd player then explore dacs when you are used to the sound
Thanks Lurch

Damn I was getting excited about that Restek ! Done some research on the company and checked out your previous thread on it. This is the kind of stuff that intrigues me....... way out of budget though so probably a good thing. Interesting to know how it'll sound after the refurbismentLol not suggesting it but it answered your question re sale of my Audiolab 😊
The MF I Suggested is however, an excellent player. As you mentioned, the player needs to be supported which counts out the Copland. Without spending all your money, you wouldn’t go far wrong with an Arcam FMJ CD33, 36 or the 37. Last of the great Arcam FMJ’s
Thanks for that. Honiton not a million miles from me. I guess the A3.5 is a step below the A5 but would I tell the difference.... possibly nothttps://www.gumtree.com/p/hi-fi-separates/musical-fidelity-a3.5-cd-player/1441521986
don’t know how it would compare with your A5
don’t know the fellow but he seems to look after his kit. I was sorely tempted on Mircomega Stage 2 to use as a transport but dilly dallied for too long. He was also quite open about occasional misread of CD’s on the Micromega which is a positive.
good luck with the search
Of course this is what you should try and afford 😊Thanks for that. Honiton not a million miles from me. I guess the A3.5 is a step below the A5 but would I tell the difference.... possibly not

Heard this at a special event against some other formidable players and it was easily the one to beat

If I didn’t have the Restek, I’d be all over it. Supported too. If your gonna change yours, you have to go for an improvement don’t you think? 😊I posted over on the MF forum asking about this player Jon.... thanks you've just answered my question !
A KW DM25 (Dac only) has recently sold on Ebad for about £500. I was hesitating.
The words 'Compact Disc', 'Micromega' and 'reliable' rarely seem to appear in the same sentence without a number of negatives being included.https://www.gumtree.com/p/hi-fi-separates/musical-fidelity-a3.5-cd-player/1441521986

Yes would like an improvement absolutely. The A5 was a good player though. Secondhand values are currently around £500. I'm normally a 'bang for buck' type and spending an extra grand or more, I'd need to hear a 3 fold improvement. If your gonna change yours, you have to go for an improvement don’t you think? 😊
What’s wrong with yours?

Embarrassed to say I got some cables mixed up at the rear of my A5 and plugged them into somewhere they shouldn't have gone..... I think it was direct into the power amp or something ! There were some very strange noises and then it was goodnight : (
My repair guy couldn't fix it (processor or something) and I hastily sold it as parts repair.
If you like the MF sound why not stay with it at whatever budget you are working to. I had an X-Ray until I went to Linn Akurate DS and Innuos. Must say I loved it through MF amp and pre amp. Thanks Lurch

I'm very drawn to it. I will probably enter the bidding if one comes up for auction. A £grand for one would be nice ))Not good 😌
Your unlikely to get three times better sound but you will get more of what you currently enjoy. I’d expect a bigger soundstage along with blacker blacks and an improved in absolute transparency. What’s it worth? Well that’s entirely up to you.
It’s unlikely however, you would ever want or need to change your silver spinner again. Don’t forget you have DAC inputs too.
The transport was specifically for the KW DAC due to the dual AES connectionI'm very drawn to it. I will probably enter the bidding if one comes up for auction. A £grand for one would be nice ))
Did I read somewhere that KW transport will only accept the the KW dac....... or the other way round ?
