Once again, input is required, gentle (and not so gentle) Wammers - I've found what appears to be a worthwhile, cost-effective pair of modules for upgrading a CD player.

The first item is a combined clock/spdif module. If nothing else, this is interesting because of the claimed jitter from this clock. Where a lot of clock upgrades are claiming 5ppm, this is claiming 1ppm! Please forgive the links, mods. For the record, I have nothing to do with either seller:

The second item is basically a mains to 5dc regulated smps - since I'd be looking at fitting a separate clock, for this price a separate PSU for the clock makes sense, I think:

I'd be interested in any comments on these units, and especially suggestions for alternatives with reasons for the alternative being preferable.

I tried a Net-audio clock and power supply on my old Arcam alpha 5 and it made the sound worse!

I think the power supply to the clock is usually more important than the clock itself. Try and get hold of a pfm flea (www.pinkfishmedia.net) to feed the clock. The flea is supposed to work even better if you supply it with it's own seperate transformer and smoothing caps. That's how I ran mine but I didn't compare it to the existing supply, so couldn't comment on sound quality differences.

I had a Meridian 500 T upgraded with a Flea clock. Seemed to improve things, though not enourmously. Being fair, only cost £50 and for that price, seemed more than fair.
