I am very pleased with my current system, last years upgrade to Quad/Croft amplification made such a difference, problem is I am moving from a nice house with my own music room to a much smaller place

(maybe a flat) and my current speakers Mission 754f as much as I enjoy them are just to big and imposing,

Never really been that adventurous with speakers and have mainly stuck with Mission's, will have to buy used and for similar money as the 754's are worth £300 ? maybe a tad more.

Any ideas or suggestions as to what may work well with what I've got, I know the only way is to listen, but thought you guys might point me in the right direction.

thanks

John

I went from 752f's to 754's and would certainly consider going back if room size was an issue. Less bass extension but same 'voicing'. You can get a good, minty pair of 752f's for around £200-£250 ish. Certainly less than your 754f's are worth (assuming they're not Rosewood which no one seems to want). I spent almost 2 years searching hi & low for my 754f's in light oak and would have to spend £3k ish to make a better noise with modern speakers.

I think the 754f's are a bit like the Kef 200c in that they have a real timeless quality/build about them that many people desire so I think you'll have no problems moving them on.

Hope that helps, Gary.

I used a cracking pair of 732s for years in a small room and liked them. Quite a narrow, deep box front ported so work well most anywhere and sound pretty good. I'm selling them cheap if you are interested.

Had them hooked up to an Arcam 8/8P combo. Lovely.

Try looking for Revolver R33's they are an easy load and are smooth with good detail or something from JM Labs perhaps

I would have said 'JM Lab' too but I have no idea how a Quad 909 would handle them. It's my belief that the better JM lab speakers are not a kind load - and when they aren't driven properly they tend to express it in the treble. I think this is why they sometimes get labelled as harsh - when in fact, it's just the amp running out of current. A big pair of Spendors might be better. Just a thought -

I'd wait until you have the new place, and have found that the speakers really don't fit. I have speakers that are probably too big for my room, and tbh I don't mind that much, even if the wife bleats occasionally. Make sure you can't live with it first, then make any enforced changes.
