sorry i dont think you understand, its a tonearm mounting collar, it has a surface finish over the brass, its not paint but some king of coating all over.
ie like anodising for aluminium, its a typical silver tonearm colour.

Probably plated in that case - nickel or chrome

a picture says a thousand words.
in the photo you can see the coloured finish has been rubbed thin near the allen bolt, you can also see its brass in the countersunk area of the right side allen bolt.
my question is what finish would be used to replicate this colour please?

get it shot blasted and then decide what to do with it, might look smart in a lacquered blasted brass

I'm perhaps the wrong person to react as I have no issue myself with altering the looks of components.
Have done lots over the years. Some worked great some less so.
But who at the end of the day cares:) obviously except the OP(y)

You could try a silvering compound - used for resilvering clock dials etc - you would need to lacquer it as well though, or it will just tarnish - I think the liquid that you can buy does essentially the same job and is quite a bit cheaper than the powder. MH
