I am looking for a reasonable pair of closed back headphones to use on my akai gx625 reel to reel . Hopefully not to pricey happy with used ones . Just wanting advice as what would work best.

Don't be so coy about price.
"Not too pricey" is going to mean different things to different people.

But anyway, how about...
Beyerdynamic DT 250
Shure 840
Bose AE2
Austrian Audio x15 (I've not heard these, but their rep is good).

All very good, and well under a £ton used.

Yeah I suppose so ,under 100 is what I was thinking. Main thing is I don't want bright and need to be efficient as I am not sure how much drive the deck has cheers

I've used my mobile phone with the first 3 of my suggestions, so you shouldn't have problems with your R2R deck.
My fave is probably the Shure 840, very natural sounding imo.

Not too bright, try Sennheiser they make some good value closed backs. I only use their open backs though.

When it comes to using closed-back headphones on an Akai GX625 reel-to-reel, there are several factors to keep in mind. The first is the impedance of your chosen headphones, as some models may require a higher impedance than what is provided by the GX625 to effectively drive them. Additionally, closed-back headphones will generally offer a better noise isolation and reduce background noise from the machine itself.

There are many great options available for all budgets and personal preferences when it comes to finding the right closed-back headphones for your reel-to-reel. Popular choices that provide excellent sound quality at an affordable price include the Beyerdynamic DT 770, Sennheiser HD280 Pro, and Audio Technica ATH-M50x. For those who have higher budgets and are after even more detailed sound quality, consider investing in premium models such as the Focal Elegia or Audeze LCD XC.
