My Yamaha CR420 receiver ... was less than a round of drinks.
Next up is a Simple Audio Roomplayer(s) with amp converted to a Squeezebox player ... < £30-£50

Which buffer?
It is a firebottle buffer which also multiplies gain x4. Bencat bought it originally either from the Wam or PFM . We took it to Glenn Croft along with some of Andrews own Croft amps. Mr Croft himself breathed his magic on the buffer at Andrews behest. It did nothing with Andrews system and he needed a phono stage so we did a swap. Looks really crap btw so its hidden amongst my other kit.

I had a £60 pair of Royd Minstrels.
Bought as a stop-gap post LP12/Naim. They lasted 8 years.

It took my Proacs to oust them.

My Genexxa LX5s that I bought for £100 from Tandy in 1991. Upgraded the internal wiring and cross over components, and with new drivers but still in use. I must have spent nearly half the last 30 years listening to them.

Not really in the spirit of the thread, but this is actually the cheapest box in my system, and definitely my favourite

It's also the only component I bought at full retail (£1200 about 20 years ago) - when I first had it Sugden kindly offered to increase the standing current, which overcame my only criticism of its performance (I felt the bass lacked a little drive)
- I have tried many other amplifiers at ever increasing price points, and the little Sugden has stayed firmly put.... thus saving me substantial sums over the years - I genuinely think this might be my "endgame" power amp, and as such I think it's an absolute bargain 😉

(it's a 'Musicmaster' single ended class A @16wpc - part of the short-lived 'Bijou' series)

Best bang for buck things I have/had in the house are:

£30 CCA as already mentioned above, which is connected to my Naim QB V1 in kitchen to allow me to use tidal app and not the Naim one.

Then a £20 Zyxcel switch connected to my streamer in main system. Which adds c5% SQ uplift for peanuts.

EDIT: although I no longer have one (but have had 3) a big nod to the little Amptastic Mini-1 amp.The performance of that thing is ludicrous compared to the cost.

The Amptastic is mentioned a few times, I had one and wholeheartedly agree: it's a bar-gain. Shame they don't make them anymore.

The Fosi V3 seems to be a bit of a hot topic of late, anyone compared it with the Amptastic?
