My comment was in respect of upsampled streams. It is my belief that the 44kHz cut off was the big problem with digital and why vinyl to many sounds better.
So you have not done a direct comparison?

You can upsample a digitised copy of an analogue LP as much as you like but if the original sample was at 44khz then you cannot put back what isn't there (and in my comparisons my DAC upsamples to 192khz).

The problem comes from the poor masters and poor conversion to digital of the majority of Analogue recordings (with the exceptions such as those I mentioned above).

But as evidence of my quandary I have bought two things this week. First three Japanese pressings of some favourite LPs and secondly a small retro LP cabinet that will hold 75 LPs because am thinking about slimming down the collection.

Anyway keep your thoughts coming because it really is helpful.
I think this sums up whether you still want to play records

I gave up vinyl a couple of years ago. It was hard at first but after a while it gets easier.
That's an interesting point you make.
I made the same decision because I couldn't get hold of the music I like on vinyl. This was way back in the 90,'s and there is a lot more availablity for non main stream vinyl nowadays, especially online.
I think vinyl is more of a commitment to the whole process of hardware and perhaps storage space for vinyl records.
It can also be fun hunting through old vinyl and vinyl stores and record cafes keep popping up all over the place here in the deep south. 😁
Having more time on my hands nowadays I often feel tempted to try another spinner though.

I blow hot and cold with my vinyl.
Got about 3000 LPs , been buying since 1969 , some rareities in there.
Basis 2500 TT , Vector 4 arm, Shelter MC cartridge into a Tron phono stage, so not a shabby front end.
I've not touched an LP for a month, recommuning with my CD collection.
I'll make an effort this eveing to fire the TT up, recently I've very much been, sod it, sell the whole vinyl front end and LPs and stick to a good digital front end.
The Copland CDA825 CDP offers "almost" all I get from the vinyl, without the faff, and worry of destroying the cantilever after a couple too many Red wines !
Did fire up the TT last night.
Started with Private Dancer ( for Tina , RIP)
U.K. (1st album)
The Yes Album
Miles , Tribute to Jack Johnson
Talk Talk , Spirit of Eden.
All sounded great , need to play more LPs , again !

I was referring to sample rates way in excess of 192kHz through the Mscaler or HQ player which take things to a different level. I have the former. Although I found 192 kHz streams on Qrobuz superior a lot of this might have been due to remastering and the 24 Bit rate. As well as upsampling i have found that a roll off above 20kHz improves the sound, no mtter how high the sample trate, rather than an abrupt cut off. I achieve this via the green filter on the Qutest.

Perhaps best to do this conversation elsewhere because this is a different thread. Thanks

Thanks to the many genuinely useful and helpful thoughts on here, from all sides, I think that I may stay with vinyl but in a limited way.

There are certain albums that really sound right on LP as that is how I grew up. So the LPs will be slimmed down a lot to focus just on the special stuff that really matters to me.

The question then remains about the Luxman/Audio Note turntable. I think that if I view it in car terms like a Bugatti (choose your own car) and that Bugatti only comes out to play occasionally, but when it does it is spectacular, then I can live with that. It might work for me.

Hang on to your vinyl and TT!
Vinyl is my only source and has been for a long time
I don’t play often (as often as I post in ’what are you listening to’) but its my escape to great times and memories - very relaxing and a portal to the times and places that matter
Its a great faff too 😎

After I went digital I nearly, nearly sold all my CDs and CD player with the view to just go minimalistic digital. However, I had a few nagging doubts and decided to hang off until My DSM had settled in. A few years later and I've still got my CD's and CD player and what I've found is that digital is just another way to listen to music, it is not a direct replacement for other sources. So keep your TT and vinyl and enjoy.

The big issue here I think is that it is difficult to make a logical decision as it's more of an emotional one. And of course perceptions and thoughts might change down the line.
There's no right or wrong answer here to my mind ! I hope that helps Dom .

And that’s the point Ian. No right or wrong. And our feelings change over time because we are human. And that’s ok. We can look at life through various lenses and depending on the lens we look through we will have a different perspective and make different decisions.

A friend once asked me if he should further his education at the tender age of 65. Well, he wanted to add a certain qualification in order to establish more recognition in his field of psychotherapy. The main dilemma was of course his working in uni as a psychotherapist and also had another job.

He would have to take a hit of a substantia reduced income over the two years of studying. He worried over it so much. I then said to him if it's this hard to come to a decision then do nothing. He decided not to take the course. After two years he got better prospects of jobs and ability to study.

Revisit in a year or so, then time and your circumstance over that period will make the decision for you. When dealing with hard decisions best to wait it out abit
The longer it takes to come a decision may be a telltale sign to change nothing .

I understand music gear as I own alot of classic keyboards and synths which can't be found to buy. I'll never part with my studio stuff.
