Hi

well it seems I am forced to use my CDP as a transport as the issue with volume is going to be hard to fix (esoteric wont let our local repair guy have access to a manual (actually they just ignore all approaches)

at the suggestion of cheshireBob I tried plugging it into a Micromega Dac he lent me and ....

the Dac is a loaner so I need to explore the murky world of dacs - I know pretty much nothing about such fancyshmancy stuff as always been an avowed single box cd player kind of chap, so a bit of advice please from you experts.

what I would love is something that gives me volume and the ability to turn over the CD player tracks from a single remote controlled Dac - is this even possible? just a dac with remote would be ok as I could try one of those programmable ones to sort the cd player functions alongside the Dac Volume.

ironically the one thing i didn't like about the cd player was its lack of volume control so this could actually work out fine - budget is flexible, any advice gratefully appreciated, anyone got one they want to bring round even better

cheers

darren

Perhaps the Rega DAC which seems to be on sale in a lot of places now.

sorry, clearly didn't read your post properly. The M-DAC from Audiolab has a good feature set.

I posted a similar question regarding 'CDP with volume control' on the Wam several years ago - and was recommended the Audiolab 8200CDQ by several here. I bought one second-hand and have been very happy with it.

It seems to fit what you are looking for. A one-box solution with a CD transport, good-quality DAC with the capability to accept optical and USB inputs from other sources, volume control for digital inputs entirely in the digital domain, and several other features. [it also has a good analogue pre-amp, if you need this]. Second hand prices here have been ~£500.

If you want a one-stop solution (volume and track selection on one remote).... why not just buy a new CD player that does that instead of a DAC which probably wont?
